I had the privilege of working with Dr Lucinda Shoolbred on our production of The Witness, a limited series drama for Netflix. The production featured in a leading role a young actor of only 5 years of age, and the subject matter was very dark, so we invited Lucy to join the production from a very early stage to ensure his wellbeing and safety throughout the process. She quickly became embedded in the team and worked closely with the actor’s parents, our production team, other cast members and with the young boy himself to advise and guide us.
Her work in developing bespoke safe protocols for filming, supporting the actor and his family, and creating psychological boundaries to safeguard him were absolutely central to us being able to create a compelling and authentic piece of drama while putting his needs at the centre of everything. We simply couldn’t have done it without her calm, intelligent, knowledgeable guidance.
She understood the creative challenges and worked intuitively and collaboratively with us to find solutions for how to achieve highly emotional scenes while protecting our young cast. She was totally committed and professional throughout, not to mention lovely to work with.
